Anthony is a bit of an enigma. He played with such great smarts in 2013, and seemed to really struggle with his instincts in 2014. But he sure looks the part, but doesn't always look like he is playing the part. I think he might be best lined up outside where he can rush a little. I love how he moves straight forward to the QB. He can look excellent in coverage. He is such a smart guy. I think he can be a starting Will and/or a starting ILB in a 3-4. He had a good week at the Senior Bowl. He took over as the starting MLB for the South team.

Great lateral speed running across the field to get to the RB on a sweep to the opposite side. When he is focused he can get to the ball carrier quickly. He can give a nice jam to the tight end on the second level. Does a nice job keeping his eyes on the QB in coverage. He can read the QBs eyes in coverage.

He is very effective getting outside to cover the RB sneaking out of the backfield. He really doesn't give up much on swing passes. He really looks the part. He really is a great athlete for an ILB. He also is excellent at picking up the tight end in coverage. He really is great in coverage on the tight end. That is one of the reasons they liked him so much.

When he plays within his keys and technique he can look like the best LB in this Draft. When he plays with purpose and aggression he looks like the best. When He reads it right, he has the elite feet that can get him there. He is excellent in coverage. He plays the zone well, but he is best in man when he can just run with a TE or RB around the field. He is always at his best when he can just run. Nice production over his career.

One of the team’s most athletic defensive players ... had 330 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three interceptions for eight yards, 18 quarterback pressures, 13 pass breakups, five caused fumbles and one recovered fumble in 2,264 snaps over 52 games (35 starts) in his career ... changed his jersey from #12, which he wore in 2011 and 2012, to #42 for the 2013 season.

He was good but not great 2014. He played injured and it showed a little.

2014: Permanent team co-captain ... one of 15 semifinalists for the Butkus Award ... First-Team All-ACC selection (media, coaches) ... first-team All-ACC by Athlon, College Sports Madness, ESPN and Phil Steele ... Senior Bowl invitee ... had a team-high 90 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 11 quarterback pressures, one interception for eight yards, four pass breakups and two caused fumbles in 711 snaps over 13 games (12 starts) ... had five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 55 snaps at No. 12 Georgia on Aug. 30 ... had five tackles and two tackles for loss in 16 snaps against SC State on Sept. 6; named team defensive player-of-the-game ... had a team-high eight tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups and two quarterback pressures in 66 snaps at No. 1 Florida State on Sept. 20; named Bednarik Award Player-of-the-Week; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... had a game-high 10 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 79 snaps against North Carolina on Sept. 27 ... had seven tackles, 0.5 sacks, two pass breakups and a caused fumble in 42 snaps against NC State on Oct. 4 ... had seven tackles and a team-high three quarterback pressures in 67 snaps against Louisville on Oct. 11 ... had a team-high 10 tackles in 58 snaps at Boston College on Oct. 18; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... had six tackles, one sack, an eight-yard interception return and a caused fumble in 62 snaps against Syracuse on Oct. 25; named ACC Co-Linebacker-of-the-Week; named team defensive player-of-the-game ... had a team-tying-high nine tackles in 67 snaps at Wake Forest on Nov. 6 ... had seven tackles in 63 snaps at No. 23 Georgia Tech on Nov. 15 ... had a team-tying-high 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and two quarterback pressures in 59 snaps against Georgia State on Nov. 22 ... had three tackles in 52 snaps against South Carolina on Nov. 29; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... had three tackles and one tackle for loss in 25 snaps against No. 24 Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Dec. 29 ... Bednarik Award Watch List member in the preseason ... Butkus Award Watch List member in the preseason ... Lombardi Award Watch List member in the preseason ... Nagurski Trophy Watch List member in the preseason ... No. 12 inside linebacker in the nation in the preseason by Lindy’s ... preseason fourth-team All-American by Phil Steele ... preseason First-Team All-ACC (media) ... preseason first-team All-ACC by Athlon, ESPN, Phil Steele and Sporting News.

He had a better statistical season in 2013 when he was healthy all season and looked like a 1st Round talent at linebacker:

2013: Second-team All-ACC by Phil Steele ... Third-Team All-ACC selection (media, coaches) ... had a team-high 131 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three quarterback pressures, one interception, five pass breakups and one recovered fumble in 802 snaps over 13 games (13 starts) ... had seven double-digit tackle totals ... had 13 tackles in 71 snaps against No. 5 Georgia on Aug. 1; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... had eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a recovered fumble in 37 snaps against SC State on Sept. 7 ... had a game-high 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup in 72 snaps at NC State on Sept. 19; named ACC Linebacker-of-the-Week ... had a team-tying-high seven tackles in 41 snaps against Wake Forest on Sept. 28 ... had a team-high 10 tackles and one tackle for loss in 77 snaps at Syracuse on Oct. 5 ... had a game-high 11 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in 57 snaps against Boston College on Oct. 12; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... had six tackles and one sack in 74 snaps against No. 5 Florida State on Oct. 19 ... had a team-high nine tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup in 72 snaps at Maryland on Oct. 26 ... had nine tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in 58 snaps at Virginia on Nov. 2 ... had six tackles and one tackle for loss in 62 snaps against Georgia Tech on Nov. 14 ... had a game-high 13 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 41 snaps against The Citadel on Nov. 23 ... had 12 tackles, one tackle for loss and two pass breakups in 68 snaps at No. 9 South Carolina on Nov. 30 ... had a game-high 11 tackles, an interception on Ohio State’s final drive that sealed the win and a pass breakup in 72 snaps against No. 6 Ohio State in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3; named team co-defensive player-of-the-game ... preseason second-team All-ACC by Phil Steele.

His speed and quickness can make it very tough for O-linemen to grab him. He is a sideline to sideline tackler. He has such quick feet that he can make the OG miss with his quickness. He can cover the RB out of the backfield. Dances too much on 2nd level. Doesn't have great eyes sometimes. When he sees it he gets the the ball in a hurry, but when he doesn't he dances too much.

Terrific covering the Screen from the Nickel. He has the speed to stay in front of RBs on sweeps and tosses to the sideline. Nice one step fake to make the OG miss him on the second level. I really like him in man coverage on the TE. He is the elite athlete for the Mike position in this Draft, but he has to tighten up his technique and reads.

Not the best blitzer up the gut. Better blitzing with speed, when he finds a lane or goes outside. But he is not good at shedding the OG or OC if they catch him. He can move forward to the flat and hit the slot receiver as the ball arrives and knock it out. When he sees it correctly he can make the correct play with some nice force and impact.

He can slide through traffic well, but will get his feet taken out sometimes. Does a nice job covering the H-B/FB out into the flat. Love his feet making OGs miss on the second level. But his dances too often leave him behind the RB on outside runs. I have to question his instincts. He moves around the field faster than any LB in this Draft, but finds himself out of position, hopping in the wrong direction first, and missing the tackle too much this past season.

Additional Game Notes:

Georgia: I love how this guys moves on the field. Terrific blitzer. He moves well in traffic. Plays MLB in 4-3. Nice job running with the tight end down the seam. Needs to bounce it outside better. He has a lot of false steps, too much. He always seems to take a nice angle out into the Flat to cover Gurley sneaking out of the backfield. He showed the speed to get all the way outside to the marker on a toss to Gurley. He is having a lot of trouble staying in front of Gurley on runs. He will line up on the TE in the slot, and blitz from there. He did a great job covering Gurley in the flat all game.

Oklahoma: He can put speed to power going up the gut on runs. When he sees the ball carrier he slides through traffic to stay in front of him nicely. He can shuffle down the seam with the tight end nicely. Plays the zone right in the middle of the box, and can make the QB slide down quickly when he charges him. Misses too many tackles with bad angles and bad reads.

BC: When he is covering the RB, he angles to the flat as fast as anyone. Bites on play action a lot. He is a run first defender. He has great quick feet which he loves to uses to hop forward and back as he reads (or misreads;-) the play. He rams up the middle quickly on the goal line. When he gets tentative and tries to read too much he is terrible. When he finds a lane on the inside blitz he can move into the backfield fast. He gets hurt by misdirection. Plays the spy well on the QB. He can attack the QB when he is spying, and he tries to slip outside.

Louisville: False steps, false steps. He takes too many false steps. Takes bad angles on toss plays too much. Great feet moving backwards in coverage. When he kickslides back in coverage with his eyes on the QB he really looks the part. He can stop his pedal and attack the TE nicely in a short catch underneath. Gets stuck in traffic on trickeration. When he sees it in front of him he gets to the RB fast.

Stephone Anthony Vs UNC:

When he sees it and read it right he gets their fast and can make the tackle through contact (:01). He hops around a little. But once he sees the QB throw he gets to the RB fast through a lot of traffic (:11). I question his instincts a little. Watch him hop around a little as they set up the play. He doesn't break on the ball until he sees the QB throw. But watch how fast he slides through and past the TE to get to the RB (:30). This is what we want to see (:39). He reads the play quick as pie, and meets the RB in the hole. That is an inside linebacker right there.

Another nice play. He shuffles laterally, keeping his shoulders square. Fights the OG, and sticks his shoulder into the RB (:48). I like his speed and aggression when he blitzes off the edge (1:00). It is plays like this that make me question his instincts sometimes (1:08). Too many false steps, and doesn't seem to notice the TE slipping behind him (1:15). Then he makes a nice play behind his eyes (1:25). He uses his great quick feet nicely to track the RB and meet him as he slashes through the hole. Though I would have liked to seen him fill the hole a little more.

When he bursts forward with his eyes and purpose, he is a beast. He reads the hand off and leaps onto the RB (1:37). He covers the TE down the seam and hops out of coverage when he sees the QB throw underneath. He knocks the receiver back, a little late, but stops the 1st down to force the punt. He really can be excellent in coverage (1:51). I love how he covers the RB on the swing pass. He always seem to take good angles to him (2:05). He blitzes (2:17). You can really see his athleticism and agility as he leaps over the cut block.

Excellent coverage picking up the tight end dragging over the middle which is why Payton said he liked him (2:48). He thought they needed a linebacker who was great in coverage against the tight end.

He lines up in the slot in coverage. They run off tackle to the other side and he gets across the field nicely to make the stop. When he sees it he usually gets there (3:10). He has to stay inside a little too much in case of the run. But he shuffles over to get in front of the TE, but the QB throws too quickly for him to get there (3:22). He reads the flow of the O-line nicely, but over runs the play (3:40). He really shows his speed getting across the field (3:47). He does a nice job covering the RB sneaking out of the backfield (3:55). But he just can't reach the QB.

When he reads it quickly he can fill the hole with some nice aggression (4:05). He gets caught in traffic (4:23). He does a nice job jamming the TE in coverage as he keeps his eyes on the QB (4:34). He just always seems to find the RB in coverage. That was an excellent defensive play (4:57). Goal line. He does a nice job dropping while eyeing the QB, and hoping in front of the WR the QB was eyeing down (5:11). Watch the great burst up field as he reads Screen, and bursts into the flat (5:35). When his eyes are right his feet get him there.
