Pats Vs. Titans

1st Quarter

Two Big TDs.

Greetings Pats Fans,

First off I just want to thank all the fans of this site. I have been promoting my books for sale primarily on this site. As a result, I have sold almost 500 books in the past year. Thank you for your support and patronage, both are greatly appreciated. I cannot tell you how happy it made me when I read that report. So thank you Draft fans and Patriot fans alike, and mostly thank you to all the fans of my books and website worldwide.

As result of all your great support, the start of the Patriots season, and the release of my third book And One (or should I say second novella on kindle), I will be offering Manfred's Argument (my first novella) for free on from September 10th to September 14th.

To all my faithful followers. Thank You.

The Patriots defense comes out 1st and 10 matched up in a 3-3 Nickel with five guys up on the LOS. The Titans have a Bunch on the strongside in a Singleback. As expected they run. Chung runs around the bunch and grabs Antonio Andrews foot as he tries to slash by, and Collins and Jones jump on top of him. 2nd and 5, Titans go into a 4-Wide Shotgun. Pats stay 3-3 Nickel. They run again. Brown gets tackled slipping into the hole, which allows Andrews to slip through the line. But he is able to grab is foot and slow him a little. Branch jumps on him quickly for a nice tackle. "I thought we did pretty well as a defense in the first half," Branch said. "I feel like if we want to go to the place that we need to go to later on in the year, then we've got to definitely start playing better, finishing the game all 60 minutes. Defensively, we didn't let them in the game but we gave up some plays that we typically stop on a normal basis. We've just got to go out there and put all 60 minutes together and that'll help us going forward." He has been so good stopping RBs at or behind the LOS this season. 3rd and 2, Pats crowd the line with six guys in a Nickel. As Titans have a Bunch on the Blindside. Pats bring all six. But then Ninkovich drops out to cover the RB. And Collins drops off to cover the Box. Mariota has to whip the ball to nowhere too quickly, as Jones had a free shot at him. And I am very disappointed to see Amendola returning punts.

1st and 10, Pats in a 2-Wide Weak shotgun. They run Bolden and he has a lot of room running behind a pulling Shaq, with Tre' blocking well as well. Martin and Cannon have good blocks as well. 2nd and 1, Pats in a 3-TE Singleback. The give it to Bolden and he fights for a First, but the ref calls Holding on Shaq. 2nd and 11, Pats come out in a Singleback with trips right. Brady has to dump it off to Bolden swinging out of the backfield behind the Trips. He picks up a six. 3rd and 5, Empty. LaFell drags over the middle and flashes in front of Brady. The DB is trailing way behind him, so he turns up field at full speed. Flies over midfield, and is pushed out of bounds after 29-yards.

1st and 10, Pats in 3-Wide Weak shotgun. Brady tosses it to Bolden who tries to turn the corner, but doesn't have much space. 2nd and 11, they run a screen to LaFell. He follows Amendola, Andrews, and Vollmer down field for about eight yards, where he is finally taken out just short. 3rd and 1, Pats come out in an I, with Iosefa in at FB. Bolden follows him outside for an easy looking 1st down.

1st and 10, Pats in a 2-Wide Strong shotgun. They try to run Bolden off tackle, but he has to slam into the LB setting the edge for very little. 2nd and 9, Pats in a 3-Wide Strong shotgun. They run misdirection. Brady play fakes to Bolden, and the whole O-line heads left. Brady throws to Gronk going against the grain for another First.

1st and 10, Pats in a 3-Wide Singleback at the 12. Brady hits Amendola dragging outside, and he tries to duck under two tackles but the second guy catches him. 2nd and 7, in 3-wide Weak shotgun. Brady just zips it to White sneaking out of the backfield. He gets taken down right away. 3rd and 3, 3-Wide Strong shotgun. Brady hits Gronk on a short out for a far too easy looking Touchdown.

Instant Replay:

Gronk lines up with his hand down next Vollmer. He turns his shoulder inside, and slips sideways past the OLB, who gives him a chuck. "Rob gets a lot of different looks from the defense, and in this particular case, I believe it was Orapko standing over top of him, or right to his left," Josh said. "He tried to disrupt Rob's timing and route by jamming him at the line of scrimmage and then the linebacker was inside of him, waiting to accept the coverage and I think that Rob did a good job of not getting disrupted or rerouted too much at the line and then that gave him an opportunity to make his move on the next player at the second level. That requires a lot of detail, a lot of time spent working on his releases and the top of his route." The chuck actually helped him in the pattern. The OLB's chuck sent him further inside than intended. So when he reached the ILB at the second level, he was more inside than excepted.

The ILB moved a little inside, just as Gronk flashed across his face outside. "I thought he did a good job at the top of his route to create some separation and then Tom threw the ball away from the defender and then Rob went and got the ball with his hands," Josh said. "A lot of little things go into most plays and in this case, Rob had to do a lot of little things well and Tom read the coverage well and we ended up with a situation where there was an opportunity where there was one-on-one coverage, on a third down, important part of the game. It gave us an opportunity to start fast and they made it happen." The LB grabbed him as Brady threw the ball "He played tough all day," TB12 said. "It was great to get him in the end zone there early and get ahead. We talked about playing this game from ahead, playing on our terms, and that was a big play. It was single coverage and [he] got good outside leverage. I just tried to put it on him. He's been through a lot this week. I'm sure he's happy to get the win like we all are." Gronk caught it on the goal line, and just had to step easily into the endzone. Pats-7. Titans-Zip.

Pats come out in a 3-4, with the Titans in a 3-Wide Singleback. Collins fakes a blitz. Then Mayo Blitzes. But Mariota has time to dump it off to the FB Fowler sneaking out of the backfield. Butler and Jones take him down in the flat. 2nd and 2, Pats match up in a 3-3 nickel with Chung up. They hand it off underneath to Andrews. He dances at the line, finds a crease, and slams forward for a first. Hicks grabs him from behind and takes him down.

1st and 10, Pats match up in a 4-3 with five guys up on the line. They run play action. Sheard reads it well and chases Mariota outside. But he is able to throw it on the move to DG-B for a First. Ryan had him in coverage and shoved him out of bounds.

1st and 10 Pats in a 4-3 with Chung up, as Titans go into a Big-1. Brown and Hicks clog up the middle. The RB rams inside into Hick and Sheard who take him down hard. 2nd and 9, Pats in a 2-4 Nickel, and Hicks and Mayo swarm over Mariota. Mayo hurt his leg. Hicks shot up field, and got past Mariota. Then punched off the ORT, and leaped into Mariota from the side. That was a great play by Hicks.

3rd and 14, Pats stand five guys up and the line, and refuse to form. Mariota catches the ball and drops as a flag flies. Fasano got a huge 1st down. But they call a huge Holding on the Titan. 3rd and 24. Pats go in a 2-2 Prevent, with three guys on the line. Ninkovich doesn’t really rush, but spies Mariota. Mariota takes off to his side, and he forces him to throw the ball away to force the punt. That was a great team effort by the front seven. They just dominated the Titans O-line. "It's a collective group effort in general on defense, and any of those guys you can rotate and play as many guys as you can," BB said. "We only have so many active for the game. If you're active for the game we expect you to be ready to go and probably at some point we're going to try to get you out there and get you some snaps and help out the group. I'd say with the front, those guys have done a good job of rotating through also. We've been able to play different guys at different positions inside, keep everybody fresh and hopefully ready to go there. They've done a good job with that. I think in general as a defensive line, if the entire group is able to rotate and play at a high level, when you do that, then those guys can feed off each other. The competition is at a high level and hopefully everybody's trying to make each other better. Certainly I think it's a change-up for your opponent. They've got to try to prepare and be ready for different plays they're going to see across from them in different positions. That's why we try to keep it moving there." And unfortunately Amendola is back there to return the punt.

1st and 10, Pats come out Empty. Brady has time and throws nicely to my man Martin. Martin dives the wrong way over the magic yellow line, as the pass was low and outside. They rush up to the line and hike it fast to the rookie from Hawaii. He gets swarmed over, but Iosefa refuses to go down. He powers the swarm of defenders three yards past the marker. "He definitely has a good impression," Alan Branch said. "He has good feet and honestly we don't thump on the running backs. So I didn't know that he had a truck-stick ability like he does. But he definitely showed everybody out there." That was an impressive run.

1st and 10, Pats come out in a Weak formation. They run play action, but Williams gets beat by Orakpo. He forces Brady to throw it away. 2nd and 10, Pats come out in a 4-Wide Weak shotgun. White runs a Draw for a few, and the refs step in and call an illegal formation. 2nd and 15, Pats in a 4-Wide Weak shotgun. Brady misfires to Gronk. 3rd and 15, Pats in a 3-Wide Winged shotgun. Brady gets sacked to force the punt.

1st and 10, Pats shift into a 4-3, with the Titans in an I. Andrews somehow sneak forward to end the 1st quarter. Collins, Chung, and Butler take him down. 2nd and 6, Pats in a 2-4 Nickel? They run Andrews and Brown stuffs it. Andrews turns and tries to reverse field, but Sheard takes him down on the backside. 3rd and 4, and the Pats crowd the line and slowly form into a 4-2 Nickel with all six guys on the line. Collins and Hightower jump out, and the OLT jumps for a timely false start. 3rd and 9, Pats crowd the line slowly. And six guys come out. Jones bulls back the OLT into Mariota. Then slaps the ball out of his hands. The balls bounces straight backwards, and Jones jumps on top of it. But it bounces out, which was fortunate as rising star Akiem Hicks jumps on it for a huge Touchdown. Pats-14. Titans-Zip. Sacks-2.
