DBs Vs. Pitt

3rd Quarter.

Terrible Choke.

By TOM

Greetings Pats Fans,

First off I just want to thank all the fans of this site. I have been promoting my books for sale primarily on this site. As a result, I have sold almost 500 books in the past year. Thank you for your support and patronage, both are greatly appreciated. I cannot tell you how happy it made me when I read that report. So thank you Draft fans and Patriot fans alike, and mostly thank you to all the fans of my books and website worldwide.

As result of all your great support, the start of the Patriots season, and the release of my third book And One (or should I say second novella on kindle), I will be offering Manfred's Argument (my first novella) for free on Amazon.com from September 10th to September 14th.

To all my faithful followers. Thank You.

Sincerely,

TOM

The DBs come out 3-W Singleback Twins-L: Run 3 for 4. They run off tackle away from the twin WRs. Hillman gets a cloud of dust. 2nd and 7, 3-W W-shotgun Twins-L. Manning checks into a 3-W Singleback Twins-L: run 4 for 5. They run the same play. If that was a run check it was a terrible one. 3rd and 7, they motion into a 3-W S-shotgun Twins-L: Pass 3 for 3, to show Pitt is in Man. Payton does a little dance to waste more clock. He drops back facing to the left, and tries to hit Thomas on a comeback. Okay, here come the refs. Thomas comes back to Payton, as the pass is about a yards short, and he dives at the ball. The CB dives back with him, and did grab his arm before the ball arrived. The refs call pass interference. Thomas hobbles off the field.

1st and 10, 3-W W-shotgun Twins-R. They will run out of this formation. Payton hands it underneath to Hillman on an inside run. He doesn't get much. 2nd and 9, 3-W W-shotgun Twins-L: Pass 1 for 2. They will pass out of this formation. Manning drops and throws to Thomas a yard deep in the Flat. He fights his way out of a tackle and dives forward for a miracle four. 3rd and 5, Empty. They run a Bubble screen, and Gay hits the WR behind the LOS to force the punt.

Pitt comes out Empty. DBs match up in a 3-3 Nickel. They bring four. Both inside linebackers don't rush and don't drop. They run a Bubble screen and the throw is off. 2nd and 10, Empty. DBs stay 3-3 Nickel, with three down on the LOS, and Miller standing up on the strongside. He is always standing up on the strongside. With two ILBs behind them. They bring four. Ware has a great rush and gets behind Roethlisberger. He forces Roethlisberger to step up. No one is covering Bryant again. He catches it 9-yards down field without a DB in sight, and then he turns and runs for another 44-yards. This secondary has some serious brain farts. With Antonio Brown out, Bryant is the only consistent receiving threat. Let's hope they cover Edelman like that.

Pitt comes out in a 4-W shotgun. The DBs match up in a 3-3 Nickel, with Ware and Miller standing up on the LOS. Roethlisberger throws to Miller in the box and the ILB Marshall hits him in the back and grabs his arm from behind before the ball arrives, just like Gay did to Thomas, and they don't call it. 2nd and 10, Pitt in a 3-W W-shotgun. DBs match up in a 3-4. Roethlisberger throws to Bryant wide open heading out of bounds under the Zone. He runs out of bounds untouched. That is just terrible coverage on two of the last three plays. Let's hope they cover Edelman like that.

1st and 10, Empty. The DBs match up in a 3-4 again. They run a Screen to Bryant. Harris hits him before the ball arrives and the refs don't call it again. 2nd and 10 at the 15-yard line. Pitt goes 3-W W-shotgun. The DBs match up in a 3-3 Nickel with Miller standing up on the Strongside, and two ILB behind them. They bring four. Miller drops into coverage, and the Slot corner lined up outside of Ware blitzes. He hits Miller in the Box. 2nd and 5, 4-W W-shotgun. The DBs go big, and bring in their 3-4. Miller puts a hand down like it is a 4-3, but Ware is standing up on the other side. The ILB shows blitz. All five guys on the LOS come, and the ILB who twitched forward on a loud count by Roethlisberger, delay blitzes. Roethlisberger hits Bryant. But Talib hits him in the back and slaps his arm before the ball arrives again to force the FG. I don't know why the Denver defenders are allow to consistently arrive early, and they call pass interference on Pitt? (Oh, that's why. Goodell is watching the game in the Denver Owner's Box) lol.

The DBs come out in a Twin-TE-R Singleback. You have to say run here. Payton runs play action and hits Sanders 17-yards down field for his first completion after the ball traveled over 15-yards in the air. He is tackled instantly.

1st and 10, 2-H-B Singleback: Run 1 for 1. You see this a lot. Teams will purposely break their tendencies in the 3rd Quarter, and then go back to them in the 4th. Manning throws another incompletion to his left. 3-W Singleback Twins-L: Run 5 for 6. This play just looks like a run. They try to run off tackle, and the RB gets killed. 3rd and 11, 2-H-B S-shotgun, and they have to pass here. Payton throws a terrible pass five yards over the WR's head to force the punt.

Pitt comes out in a big Singleback. The DBs match up in a 3-4 with a Safety up, and another one creeping. The RB tries to get outside, and Trevathan takes him down in the backfield. 2nd and 11, Pitt comes out in a Singleback. DBs stay 3-4. They run the RB again, and Vance Walker meets him at the line. 3rd and 11, 3-W W-shotgun. The DBs mull around a little in a 3-3 Nickel. They bring four and Pitt runs a draw. The RB gets crushed in the head by Stewart to force the punt. Their defense and special teams get the ball back to Payton at midfield again.

DBs come out in a 3-W S-shotgun Twins-R: Pass 4 for 4. Payton throws a pass at Sander's feet and he falls down and catches it for ten. 1st and 10 again, 3-W S-shotgun Twins-R: Pass 5 for 5. Payton throws over the middle to Norwood, and he twists himself past the marker.

1st and 10, 3-W Singleback Twins-L: Run 6 for 7. Hillman ran outside, and then cutback for a 1st. 3-W S-shotgun Twins-R: Pass 5 for 5. They run play action and Payton gets sacked. 2nd and 17, Empty. Payton throws a wobbler to Latimer on the comeback. 2nd and 11, Empty. Payton tries to go deep down the sideline, and the pass is wildly over thrown again to force the FG. Pitt-13. DBs-12.

Pitt comes out in a 3-W W-shotgun. The DBs match up in a 2-4 Dime. With Ware and Miller standing up on the LOS. They bring four, and Miller stunts inside. 2nd and 3, Pitt in a 4-W S-shotgun. The DBs match up in a 3-3 Nickel. They bring five, but Pitt runs. The ILB over runs the play. Trevathan comes over and gets him.

1st and 10, Empty. The DBs match up in a 3-3 Dime, with the one ILB playing way back. They bring four and Barrett and Smith reach Roethlisberger. They also call hands to face on Pitt to end the 3rd quarter. 1st and 25, Pitt in a 4-W S-shotgun. The DBs go 3-2 Dime, with Miller standing up on the line. They run a crazy pitch play to the RB, and he runs the wrong way like a chicken with his head cut off. Ware finally takes him down for a loss of five. That just doesn't happen if Bell or Williams are playing. 2nd and 30, with Pitt self-destructing. They go Empty. The DBs go 3-2 Dime. They bring four, and Miller stunts inside. Roethlisberger has Wheaton wide open right in front of him, and he throws it wildly over his head. 3rd and 10, and the self-destruction continues. 4-W S-shotgun. The DBs go 3-3 Nickel. They bring four. Roethlisberger hits Bryant underneath and he can't get free to force the FG. And inexplicably Pitt runs out the play clock to get pushed back five more yards and punts. You have to try to get the FG here. Then they self-Destruct some more and kick it into the endzone, for a net of 14-yards (which includes the 5-yard penalty). Game-Set-Match right here. Pitt just doesn't have it mentally.

Payton on the game so far has 16 receptions on 31 passes, with a Fumbled Snap and a Sack. He only had one reception over 15-yard (a 17-yarder to Sanders), and one reception that went exactly 15-yards past the LOS in the air. His five other passes of 15-yards or more have been incomplete, which means he is 2 for 7 in passes over 15 yards or more. If the Pats secondary owns the field 15-yards past the LOS, Payton cannot move the ball. They will Press and cover short, and bring the Safeties up, spread out the linebackers, and make Payton throw over the top, which he can no longer do.

Twins-Twins Singleback- Twin-WRs on one side and Twin-TEs on the other. With a single RB behind the QB who is under center.

3-W or 4-W- three Wides or four wides, which can include a TE, H-B, or FB standing up outside the tackles like WR.

I-Shotgun- RB lined up behind QB.

S-Shotgun- RB lined up next to QB on Strong side (right of QB).

W-Shotgun- RB lined up next to QB on Weak side (left of QB).

SB- Singleback- two TE, and two WR with QB under center.

Unbalanced SB- Unbalanced means they move one O-linemen to the opposite side of the line so there are three O-Linemen on one side of the center and one on the other. Usually the OLT moves over to the right side either inside or outside the ORT.

Pass- Means he drops to throw. If he scrambles or is Sacked the intent is still to pass.
