He Doesn't Know What he Doesn't Know (#95;).

Part III.

By TOM

The D-line looked good in Wednesday's and Thursday's practices. Rivers was getting some run at OLB. "Obviously you watch a game, a home game, and you're itching," Rivers said about last season. "You want to be out there. Other than that, it's all in due time." I know he was a 3rd Round pick.

But he had 2nd round talent. "The only thing I can do is worry about myself, honestly," Rivers said. "We have a great group of guys. Everybody works well together. But the only thing I can do is just worry about what Derek can do. And how I can get better every day and compete with those guys. It helps. When you’ve got a competitive room, it tends to help you play better." I had him in the 1st to Pittsburgh.

But he was a small school kid who dropped further than he should have. "It was definitely an eager feeling, as it got closer and closer and closer [to training camp]," Rivers said. "Definitely more eager and eager. But definitely excited to be back out here with the D-line and defense." Now it is time to prove it (that I was right about rating him that high;).

He is not a rookie anymore, but he is not really a veteran either. "It definitely helped build confidence," Rivers said about his redshirt season last year. "Obviously coming in here your rookie year is almost like your freshman year in college. Like I said now, it's just listening to the coaches and studying the playbook and pretty much just getting ready to roll for each practice and just trying to get better each and every day." He is now like a Redshirt freshman.

That a college coach hopes can explode after a year of mental preparation in the defense. "For certain things, yes sir," Rivers said when asked if he still felt like a rookie. "Most definitely. I've done this part before, but still, it's good to be back out here. You still feel kind of new to the game for sure." The Pats have the big passrushers: Flowers, Clayborn, and the young Wise.

But those guys are big 270 to 275 pound rushers, who are better bursting inside the OLT than running the arc. "You think about the last year and a half and the last time you put on pads, and man, this is a blessing," Rivers said. "It was definitely reality setting in." They need that pure speed rusher who can run the arc to compliment his buddies.

Rivers could/can run the arc faster than those guys. "Just beat the man in front of me," Rivers said. "If I’ve got a tight end I’m going to beat the tight end, if I’ve got a tackle I’m beating the tackle." I think Rivers can be that speed-rusher that the Pats desperately need.

-------

Rivers also got a lot of help from his D-end teammates last off season, especially Deatrich Wise. "That definitely helped out with certain areas that I needed that were a bunch of weak points," Rivers said about how the rookies became buddies last year. "Especially kudos to our trainers and stuff, they definitely as far as mobility and stuff like that, things where I was weak at, they definitely made a focus to obviously strengthen those things." Wise and Rivers shared that rookie bewilderment together, and it helped both them out a lot.

It helped Wise become a starter as a rookie. "Coach always tells us to be disruptive," Wise said. "It's not just sacks: its PBUs, it’s closing the pocket, and containing him, and putting your hand in his face." Wise said. "Anything to disrupt the quarterback’s communication, and throwing the ball to the ball carrier. Anything to get him off his rhythm. That’s being disruptive. And once he throws the ball you hit him. You take the lineman, and put him on his back. Anything with being disruptive. That’s what our coaches preach." He started three games last season (though it seemed like more;).

But remember, BB drafted Rivers ahead of Wise (4th round). "Nobody works harder than those two guys. Nobody," BB said. "So, it’s hard to find a time that they’re not in this building. They work extremely hard: on the field, off the field, their training, preparation, conditioning. They’ve kept that pace since they got here, and they’ve certainly sustained it in this year. They’ve made a lot of improvement and they both have upside ahead of them. So, yeah, they work very hard." As good as Wise was last season, they expected Rivers to be better.

It was also Rivers who won the award for hard work in the off-season last year, and not Wise. "Those two guys put in a lot of work," Kyle Van Noy said. "They’re here early mornings and they are here late, and it’s going to show. It might not show as fast as everybody wants it to be, but it’ll get there." With all the chaos on offense, the Pats really need those two young passrushers to step up.

They have to get a compliment to Flowers, or teams are going to double and triple team him to death. "Well, this is my job," Wise said wisely (sorry;). "This is something that I have to do. If I was an accountant, I’d be at work all day. If I was a teacher, I’d be doing the lesson all day. This is my job. This is my work. This is my craft. Something that I have to do and I have to perfect." The two ex-rookies are as important to this season as Cordarrelle Patterson.

The Pats desperately need them to hit the QB this year. "I think they’ll both make a good jump this year," Belichick said. "Derek didn’t get an opportunity to do much last year. Deatrich got some playing time. I think both of them will build on their experience as a rookie and have more productive years this year. They’re certainly off to a good start." I was impressed with both in Wednesday's and Thursday's practices.

-------

Rivers looked healthy and twitchy again. "He’s been doing fantastic," Wise said. "He’s looking good. I know he’s feeling good." He even showed some nice balance and hand violence.

Rivers won with speed a couple of times in Wednesday practice. "We came in together," Wise said about Rivers. "Derek, Keionta [Davis], Adam [Butler], Harvey [Langi], all those guys. We came in together. We’re real close. We help each other out. When we see small things on film, we’re talking about it. He helps me out, I help him out, and it’s one big pot of love." River has been lining up as a stand up 3-4 OLB.

He was rushing with speed better on Thursday. "I think both will build on their experiences as rookies and have more productive years this year," Belichick said. "They're certainly off to a good start." It is easy to forget that Rivers was the Pats top pick in the 2017 Draft.

He was expected to play. He won the Parking Spot closest to the practice facility. Which is awarded to the five hardest working players in the offseason. So he was expected to be getting most of the minutes of the young DLs. Then he torn his ACL. Wise stepped into his spot, and became the player we now know. But they thought Rivers was, and was going to be, the better player.

He was picked almost a two full Rounds ahead of Wise (59 picks). "(Derek) played competitively in the all-star games. And in a good program there with Coach Pelini who we know very well," BB said after they drafted him on Day Two last year. "Bo does a great job with his players and his team. Derek’s been in a good system. (He) has been well-coached. Even though he’s from a smaller school, we’ll see what he can do for himself here. When all is said and done." That is how much better BB thought Rivers was.

But we don't know him yet. "It only comes from repetition. So that’s something we have to do every day. It’s going good," Rivers said. "We’ve still got good mentors. We still have to learn day in and day out. Just getting help from some of the older guys like Trey, Adrian, Lawrence Guy. And even from some of the guys who played last year like D-Wise and Adam. Our D-line room is great, and we all help each other out." He has that quick twitch explosiveness on the edge.

He flew past Trent Brown in Thursday practice (Brown hurt his leg on Wednesday, and looked a little slower moving backwards on Thursday). Rivers would have killed Brady if it was a game. He was rushing mostly on the Strongside, but they put him on the Blindside for that play.

The Pats had a lot of tough loses on offense this off season. They are still figuring out how to fill the holes created by Solder, Amendola, and the first four games for Edelman. So they need the defense to step up. Getting an OLB with the burst, twitch, and explosion upfield of Rivers to hit the QB would be a huge boon for this defense. Especially with the combined rush inside the OLTs of Flowers, Wise, and Clayborn. I will be watching Rivers closely on Thursday night, #95. I hope BB plays him early and often. If his knee is sound? He should be their top edge speed guy.

Trump is now committing open TREASON, and bragging about it to his political prisoners at his Hitler-style loser rallies. This is terrifying to me. So much hate and ignorance, and the feckless republican Congress goose-stepping into line behind Herr Trump.

We now that the NRA is an AGENCY OF PUTIN!

And that the Republicans have been caught conspiring with the

NRA AND MOTHER RUSSIA AGAINST

"WE THE PEOPLE".

Here are top NRA Republicans colluding with Russian spies,

WHILE THEY WERE HACKING THE DNC.

"Prosecutors say an American identified in court documents as “person 1” helped introduce Butina to people who had “influence in American politics.” The Post has identified that person as Paul Erickson, a GOP operative from South Dakota with whom Butina was in a romantic relationship.

The emails described to The Post show that Butina met Gordon at a party at the Swiss ambassador’s residence on Sept. 29, 2016. Gordon told The Post that he had been invited to the party by Faith Whittlesey, the prominent Republican and former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland who died earlier this year.

Later that night, Erickson wrote an email to Gordon and Butina, offering to “add an electronic bridge” to the pair’s meeting earlier that evening.
Erickson wrote to Butina that Gordon was “playing a crucial role in the Trump transition effort and would be an excellent addition to any of the U.S./Russia friendship dinners to occasionally hold.”

Prosecutors have said the central banker, Alexander Torshin (Putin's personal Olegarch money man and spy), helped direct Butina’s activities in the United States, including an effort to make contacts in the leadership of the NRA. NRA officials have not responded to requests for comment.

The emails show Gordon quickly responded to Erickson, sending Butina and Erickson a clip of a recent appearance he had made on RT, the Russian state-run English language television network. In the RT interview, Gordon said Trump took a “real common-sense approach to Russia.

"What wasn’t publicly known at the time was that on April 25—two weeks before this seemingly hasty NRA leadership makeover—FBI agents in tactical gear raided the apartment of Maria Butina, a 29-year-old Russian who three months later would be charged by federal prosecutors for allegedly serving as a secret agent for the Russian government in the United States. For years, Butina and her mentor, Alexander Torshin, a Russian official tied to Vladimir Putin, had hooked up with the NRA and other conservative groups, allegedly as part of what the Justice Department called a covert influence operation. Butina, who ran a gun rights group in Russia, and Torshin, who has been accused of money laundering (a charge he denies), had attended NRA events and other right-wing get-togethers, and during the 2016 campaign used their NRA contacts to try to arrange a meeting between Putin and Donald Trump. (It didn’t happen.) During this operation, according to prosecutors, Butina relied upon the assistance of conservative consultant Paul Erickson, her romantic partner and an active NRA member.

"Did the FBI investigation of Butina lead to Brownell’s quick retreat from the NRA leadership? The NRA did not respond to a request for comment. And neither did Brownell. “He’s not taking calls,” the receptionist at his company says."

"Brownell did have history with Butina. In 2015, she organized a trip to Russia for an NRA delegation that included Brownell, top NRA donor Joe Gregory, and David Clarke, then the Milwaukee County sheriff. During that jaunt, the NRAers met with Dmitry Rogozin, the deputy prime minister, who had been sanctioned by the Obama administration in 2014 in retaliation for Putin’s intervention in Ukraine. Rogozin led the ultra-right party Rodina, and his government portfolio included a matter of particular interest to this delegation: the arms industry. He had the task of overseeing Russia’s military-industrial complex and rejuvenating the nation’s weapons-making business."

We are now in a worse situation than Watergate, with the President of the United States of American committing open treason with Russia's Fascist Dictator Putin. When you declare the Press the "enemy of the People" LIKE STALIN AND PUTIN?

than YOU (TRUMP) are THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE:

"Investigative journalist Carl Bernstein rebuked President Donald Trump for his behavior amid the ongoing Russia probe in which federal prosecutors are examining the Trump campaign's ties to Russian operatives who meddled in the 2016 US election."

"Bernstein said in an interview this week, "the Trump presidency is worse than Watergate," because of open attempts by the president and his allies to damage some of the long-standing pillars of the US government."

"The system worked in Watergate," Bernstein said, adding that now, Trump's loyalists in Congress "have done almost anything they can to impede and undermine legitimate investigation."

It has gotten so bad that Trump's

Cabinet are finally coming out, like cowed cowardly sheep,

to speak out against the FÜHRER. I don't know which is worse:

How long it finally took them to remember they are Americans again

OR HOW SCARED ASHAMED THEY LOOKED

FOR FINALLY STANDING UP TO THEIR FÜHRER'S TREASON

OR

HOW IT LOOKS LIKE A SAD AND DEPRESSING

"President Trump has rendered the REPUBLICAN PARTY UNRECOGNIZABLE to many Americans, and with each scandal for which he does not face consequences, the man who just accused Canada of burning the White House down only grows more powerful (for Trump zombie's it wasn't Canada in the War of 1812, it was the British who invaded Washington). The bounds of Trump’s executive privilege have been drawn into sharp focus recently. Last week, he enacted a controversial and possibly illegal trade policy, and in response to the ongoing Mueller investigation, both Trump and his legal team have argued that the president is above the law. Though Republicans have spent the past 16 months doing everything they can to avoid.

"This hasn’t stopped Republicans from either holding their tongues or tripping over themselves TRYING to justify the president’s wild assertions. When Sen. Ted Cruz – whose wife Trump has insulted, whose father Trump has implicated in the Kennedy assassination – was asked if he believes the president can pardon himself, Cruz paused for 18 seconds before offering that he is "withholding judgment." He later posted a convoluted Twitter thread breaking down the potential legality of a presidential self-pardon, without condemning the idea."

"But not all conservatives are withholding judgment on issues such as the president’s ability to pardon himself, his steadfast insistence that his campaign was illegally spied on by the Obama administration or a number of controversial policy measures enacted in recent weeks. One of the most surprising Republican voices to speak up is Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who on Wednesday joined Chuck Grassley and Mitch McConnell in dismissing the idea of a self-pardon as ridiculous. "I don’t know the technical answer to that question, but I think obviously the answer is he shouldn’t," Ryan told reporters. "And no one is above the law.'"

"Saying publicly that the president is not above the law is a pretty low bar for praise, but as most Republicans’ feet stay on the ground, any high-ranking resistance to Trump’s delusions is noteworthy. The wildest delusion of Trump’s presidency – a particularly high bar to clear – may be his repeated insistence that his campaign was illegally spied upon by the Obama administration. The claim has been debunked thoroughly, and last week Republican congressman Trey Gowdy said on Fox News that after being briefed by the Justice Department on the FBI’s use of an informant in investigating the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, he was even 'more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got.'"
