Preseason Game One: Part I.

By TOM

1st and 10, Rivers is an explosive guy who they are counting on to be their speed rusher. But he's not there yet. While he showed he had the best blast off, he also showed he couldn't consistently find the ball yet. Which happens with a lot of young players. The game is so much faster than college it hurts their brains. While he had a year in the system, this was his first real (or semi-real;) game. He looked and did most things the way you want him too. But he just could quite get his hands on the QB.

"Honestly if I was 1st-string, 2nd-string, 3rd, it doesn’t matter when we get out there and get plays. Man. I haven’t played football in a year. It’s just a blessing to be out there," River said after the game, and then continued "It’s exciting when a play like that happens (tipped pass). And when those things happen, you want to do them again and again and again. Anytime you do a play like that, it will definitely boost your confidence in a game. It gets you in a rhythm. And it gets you going. Just being out there. Just running out there was a confidence booster."

Rivers lined up on the weakside, with his hand in the dirt. The Pats were just starting their new defense, with their new DC. They lined up in a aggressive 4-2, with Hightower and Van Noy lined up on the line like 3-4 OLB, and Elandon Roberts in at ILB. Rivers made maybe the best play of the game. Certainly the best play he made all game.

Washington ran off tackle to the opposite side of Rivers. Their big right tackle pulled inside, and tried to get inside the DT. Rivers burst up field, exploded inside. Then he shoved the ORT from the side, so the RB ran into him, and got knocked back a little. Then Rivers tackled the RB from behind for a TFL. That was as great a play as you will ever see. To shove the blocker into the RB to stop him, and then tackle him (though it looked like the RB fell for a one foot gain;).

2nd and 9, Wise has been steadily progressing all preseason. He is a 270-pound DE who can play the edge, 5-Tech, and he can also rush inside like an undersized 3-Tech. His size and ability to power the OLT back, more than burst past him, makes him a unique, versatile, and valuable weapon in this defense.

"Coach always tells us to be disruptive. It’s not just sacks, its PBUs [Passes Broken Up], it’s closing the pocket, and containing him. And putting your hand in his face," Wise said. "Anything to disrupt the quarterback's communication and throwing the ball to the ball carrier. Anything to get him off his rhythm. That’s being disruptive, and once he throws the ball you hit him. You take the lineman and put him on his back. Anything with being disruptive. That’s what our coaches preach."

Wise lined up at 5-Tech/D-end. The Pats were in an odd front, but he was outside the OLT, like he was in an even front. The Pats went with a 3-4 with 4-3 personal. With Guy, Brown, and Wise with their hands down. And Rivers, Hightower, Van Noy, Roberts, and Chung standing up like LBs. Rivers got up field fast, but was sealed way outside before he could even start to turn.

Edge rushers cannot run in a straight line. Wise got a good jam with his inside hand. He turned the OLT almost into the QB. But the Zone was too soft, and the QB found the WR by the marker way too easily. Just as Wise was getting there. Gilmore drifted way past the Marker, and Hightower got caught short, after he jammed the TE. Gilmore was able to fly in, and stopped him short of the marker.

3rd and 1, it appeared all game that the Pats will be shifting into more of a 3-4, and with Guy and Shelton they can have a huge two-man front in passing situations to protect against Draws. Guy was an underrated player last season. He has looked very good this preseason. Brown is my guy, but there have been reports that the Pats are not happy with him. BB didn't pick up his fifth year option on his rookie contract. He is now in a contract year.

"Really, it’s just a matter of stopping the run first, and having the opportunity to rush the passer," Shelton said. "I’m going to establish that first. Make sure that I’m going to be the guy they brought me in for. To stop the run. And then also help out wherever they need me at."

Guy did a good job jamming the point and the ORG. Brown burst into the backfield, jamming the OC behind the LOS. Guy held up the ORG, until Chung swooped in to take him out.

1st and 10, Both Gilmore and Rowe were consistently excellent in both practices I watched. I hated what they did to Butler, which cost us the Super Bowl. The problem wasn't Rowe and Gilmore, it was the Nickel and Dime DBs who couldn't seem to cover a single Slot guy on 3rd or 4th down.

If BB put Butler in as the Nickel in the 2nd Half? Not a starter, but just the Nickel DB, they win the Super Bowl, period. Butler would have come up big play, as he always does in the clutch, on 3rd or 4th downs to stop one or more drives in the 2nd half to win it all again.

"I think he's one of the players that we talked about a couple of days ago that's in that second year that has a higher level of comfort in the overall program, the defensive system, the communication with teammates and understanding of techniques and so forth," BB said about Gilmore. "We have a lot of players that fall into that category and he's one of them. I think that's been evident since the beginning of the offseason program in April. He's done a good job, done a solid job for us all year. He did a solid job for us last year, but this year we're starting at a much higher point."

Pats go basic 4-3 really for the first time. They ran a beautiful play action that fooled the entire front seven. Wise powered though the OLT and got the RB, who didn't have the ball. Rivers didn't keep contain. This allowed the QB to slip outside to his right, which you never want. He hit his WR a yard past the marker, just a step inside of Gilmore.

1st and 10, Rowe is really my guy as well. I had him going in the 1st Round to the Pats the year he came out (so I'm calling that a hit;). He was more of a half-CB half-FS. But the Pats have played him as a pure Corner. He struggled when he first got here. But he has gotten better and better since. He is now a true NFL starter at CB.

"I think Eric's had a solid camp," BB said. "I don’t know what anybody’s role is. That’s all to be determined based on the competitive performance of the players; theirs and other players at their positon that they’re competing with. We'll see how all of that goes. I don’t have any control over that. Their performance is in their hands. We’ll evaluate it and then do what we think is best for the team. But he's been very competitive. I think he's had a good camp."

Rowe lined up on the inside WR against a 3-Wide set. He was way back, like a safety. With the aggressive fronts the defense has been lining up in, in this game (with the safeties in the box), the CBs had to play way Off to protect deep. The slot guy ran a short curl, and the QB hit him fast. Rowe shot forward like a FS, and only gave up a yard after the catch.

2nd and 5, Elandon Robert's honeymoon is over. They drafted two ILB to take his spot. Bentley looked to me like he popped ahead of Sam on the depth chart. A lot of what those two will need to do to become starters is show they can cover. They ran their defenses in college, and can stuff the run. Now they have to prove they can drop and cover in the Pats Defense. Bentley was given the first chance to set up the defense in this Game.

"Ja'Whaun's a smart kid, so the mental has never been an issue with him. We used multiple signal callers tonight, as we have in practice, but doing it in the game is a little bit different," BB said. "The experience is different, so we had three, maybe even four, guys doing it over the course of the game. Again, obviously, we've had a lot of guys that have done it: Hightower, Van Noy, Elandon Roberts. But we had some other guys get the chance to do it tonight too: Christian [Sam], Bentley. It's a good experience for them."

The Pats put seven guys on the line again, leaving no safeties to help the CBs again. Washington ran the RB on a smash to their right. It was well blocked. However, Roberts was able to beat the TE on the second level. He slashed into the RB's legs, and wrapped him up in space short of the Marker.

3rd and 2, Chung was all over the defense in this game. I didn't count, but he had to be leading tackler in the 1st quarter of this game (when the starters were in). He was so beat up last season that he shouldn't have been playing. It was good to see him healthy again. He is another great versatile weapon for the defense.

Pats lined up in a 4-2, Chung was on strong side, and followed the TE all the way across the formation. He got caught up in a little traffic, but once the ball was snapped he was focused on the TE #87. The TE ran out to the flat, underneath two WRs on the blindside. Chung took off like a rocket and slammed the big TE down for a very short loss (inches;), to force the punt. He really has his speed back.

Be A Citizen! Not a Subject!

Fascist is as Fascist does. Beware American. President Fredo is pulling the cowardly republican Senate closer and closer to the cliff.

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances:

The 1st Amendment to the Constitution is the greatest paragraph ever written by mankind. It is the truest diagram of how to ensure a free Country of citizens survives. But is is also a list of what to attack when you want to be a fascist dictator. President Jerkballs is attacking every article in the 1st Amendment. Beware subjects, or you will be subjugated:

It is not just the Treason,

it is the abject cruelty of poor children.

The acceptance of putting "the other"

IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS

is how those Camps were soon turned into

MASS MURDER CAMPS!

From WWI Vets to gypsies, and Gays to Jews,

we really don't know how many millions of

innocents were murdered by Herr Hitler,

and his ravenous, cowardly, and hateful

FOLLOWERS,

like our

COWARDLY CONGRESS

AND

DEVIN "THE COWARDLY LYIN" NUNES.

"In a campaign ad running more than two minutes — and appearing not only online, but also on radio and TV — Nunes Casts the dominant newspaper in his California district as a “band of creeping correspondents,” criticizing The Fresno Bee for its routine reporting practices and for its coverage of a controversy surrounding a winery in which the Republican congressman invests.

""Sadly, since the last election, The Fresno Bee has worked closely with radical left-wing groups to promote numerous fake news stories about me (LIE-LIE-DIRTY ROTTEN LIE,” Nunes says/(LIES) in the ad, though he offers no evidence of collusion between The Bee and any group.

"While it is not unusual for a member of Congress to complain about the media, Nunes’ airing of a lengthy attack against a prominent local newspaper stands apart — especially in a campaign in which Nunes, the House Intelligence Committee chairman (AND DESIGNATED LYING SACK OF SHIT PROPAGANDIST), has had little reason to date to spend money at all."

THIS ISN'T JUST TREASON,

THIS IS ONE TERRIFYING STEP

TO MASS MURDER IN OUR NAME!

Hey Trump, go pee in a hole!

BEWARE AMERICA! OUR DEMOCRACY IS DYING!

WE ARE NOW IN A "WORST CASE SCENARIO"

SITUATION!

Trump did us a favor, he showed with a tweet who he really is, and when someone shows you who they really are you just believe them. He showed what a true coward and feckless loser he truly is. With one twit, he did what no real father should ever do.

With the fear-filled passion of a true coward, he threw his son under the bus. I didn't think that the despicable Trump could make me want to vomit more. But as the proudest father of my wonderful son, I can't imagine not taking a bullet for him.

When he shoved Fredo Jr. under the bus, by proving treason against him in a twit, he made me vomit in the back of my soul again. There is nothing more cowardly, evil, and against all that the American Spirit stands for than what Fredo Sr. twitted on Sunday. Except, maybe, conspiring with an evil fascist dictator to fix an American Election.

No.

Betraying your son is worse than

betraying your Country.
