Field Goals Are Fun.

By TOM

1st and 10, Pitt lined up in a 4-Wide Strong-shotgun Trips-left, 2 for 2 Pass. They run. Um? Ben faked a pitch to Bell, and then ran up the middle on an Option run, which looked like part of the quick-throw option to James in the 1st. So they just ran a friggin' Option run with their 34-Year old QB, who was in a walking boot the week before the game. That is just stupid.

2nd and 6, they lined up in a 3-Wide Weak shotgun with a Stack on the left. They ran away from the Stack when it was on the right. They ran up the gut. The O-line created a nice pocket moving forward past the LOS. If you let them make a pocket past the LOS Bell is the best RB in the NFL. He picked, shifted, and hopped his way to the marker untouched. 3rd and 1, 3-Wide Stack-right Singleback. This looks like a run. They ran Bell up the gut. He lowered his head for a First.

1st and 10, 3-Wide Twins-right Weak shotgun, 1 for 1 run. They ran Bell off tackle. He got outside, and then broke inside for Nine. 2nd and 1, Singleback. They ran Brown up the gut for the First.

1st and 10, 3-Wide Twins-left Singleback. They ran Bell off tackle. He squeaked past his blockers for Seven. 2nd and 3, 3-wide Weak-shotgun, Stack-left. Ben threw a slant to Brown for a first.

1st and 10, Empty. Ben looked around pumped faked twice and turned to the left and threw to the TE who seemed to be blocking. He ran for Six.

2nd and 4, 3-Wide Weak shotgun, Twins-R 2 for 2 Run. They go against their tendencies and throw. He hit #83 Hamilton on a comeback, but he came back too far. 3rd and 1, 3-Wide Twins-L Singleback, run 2 for 2. Bell ran up the gut for the First.

1st and 10 at the 17, 4-Wide Weak-shotgun pass 1 for 1. Ben dropped looking right. He three stepped and threw a bullet to Brown in the endzone. The CB pulled the ball out.

2nd and 10, 3-Wide Weak-shotgun Twins-right. They ran. Bell hesitated too long, and the SS ripped inside and knocked him back on his butt. 3rd and 11, 3-Wide Weak-Shotgun Twins-R. Ben had to step up do to pressure and whipped an Osweiler-like wildly uncatchable pass outside to force the punt. Pitt-9. KC-3.

1st and 10 KC in a Trips (what I can only call a double-stack, with three WRs lined up in a row one behind the other). Pitt matched up in a spread out 3-4, with Dupree out in front of the Double-Stack. They ran Ware up the gut.

2nd and 7, KC lined up in a 2-Wide Strong shotgun. Pitt matched up in a 3-4, shaded to the strongside. Smith hit Hill on the left on an out. They were trying to cover Hill with Harrison.

1st and 10, 3-Wide Singleback. Pitt matched up in a 3-4 that is shaded to the strongside again. They brought a safety up as well. KC ran play action. Dupree hit Smith's arm as he threw, which forced a pop-up. Shazier intercepted it. Both Dupree and Shazier looked like they have turned into impact players on defense.

1st and 10 Pitt at the 44, 4-Wide Strong shotgun, Trips-left. They ran out of this formation at the start of the 2nd quarter. They run again. The O-line opened up a huge hole for the Draw. 2nd and 1, 3-Wide Singleback Stack-R, Run 1 for 1. They ran Bell up the gut for a First.

1st and 10, Pitt lined up in a 3-Wide Strong shogun Twins-L. They are 1 for 2 run, but it feels like a pass. They faked a Bubble screen to Brown. Ben faked it to Bell, then threw the ball to James sprinting uncovered down the seam. He was tackled at the Five.

1st and goal from the Five, 3-Wide Singleback, Stack on the Right 2 for 2 run. They made a nice call, and passed. I thought for sure they were running. But the ball was tipped at the line by the ILB. It popped up, and was picked off by the Safety.

1st and 10, KC in a Singleback. Pitt matched up in a 3-4 that looked like a 4-3 with Dupre standing up at the end of the line. They ran a Sweep, and Shazier cut the RB down quickly.

2nd and 7, Empty. Pitt matched up in a 3-3 Nickel with an LB in the slot on Kelsey. They ran a bubble screen, but Dupree got up field so fast that he was able to bat down the pass to the WR outside on a bubble screen! That scared me a little. I thought he was incredible at Kentucky. I was the first Draftnic to have him rated in the Top-16.

3rd and 7, KC in a 4-Wide Weak shotgun. Pitt matched up in a 2-4 Nickel with a safety in the Box like a Sam. Kelsey went in motion to the right, and Dupree hopped outside to cover him. That forced Smith out of the pocket and he threw it to the RB Ware in the flat. He dropped it to force the punt. Pitt had the Nose Tackle covering Ware. I hope they do that a few times against Dion or White, because Ware was looking at some open green instead of the ball when he dropped it.

1st and 10, Pitt lined up in a Twins-Left I. The I formation is primarily a run formation. They ran a Dive. 2nd and 8, Pitt lined up in a 3-Wide Weak shotgun, Twins-L 2 for 3 run. They seem to alternate on run and pass in this formation, and they ran last time. So of course they pass this time. Ben has time and hits Brown short on a Comeback. He ran backwards and lost four yards.

3rd and 5, 4-Wide Weak shotgun, 2 for 2 Pass. Ben hit Rogers over the middle for a 1st, but a delay of game penalty was called. 3rd and 10, they motioned into a 3-Wide Weak-shotgun Twins-Right, 2 for 4 run. If they alternate again it will be a run. They run a sweep to Bell to the right, and the blocking is great. He had a ton of green with Pouncey out in front of him running to the edge. He followed Pouncey past the marker, and got about ten more.

1st and 10 at the 42, Pitt lined up in a Twins-Left I, which they obviously ran out of last time. Bell hopped and bopped around the line of scrimmage, and then burst upfield for an impressive six. 2nd and 4, Pitt motioned into an I. Bell followed his blockers for a 1st to bring us to the two-minute warning.

1st and 10, Pitt motioned into a 3-Wide Weak Shotgun, with a Stack on the Left which they passed out of last time. They ran Bell on a Sweep to the strong side. He is caught at the LOS by two LBs. This might be another formation that they alternate between run and pass.

2nd and 9 at the 24, Pitt in a 3-Wide Winged shotgun Twins-L. Both RBs go out into pattern. Ben threw to the left to the RB sneaking out of the backfield. But he got swarmed over behind the line.

3rd and 12, Pitt in a 3-Wide Weak shotgun, Trips-Right. Ben had time. He finally threw to Rogers, but he was tackled by the CB to force the field goal, which essentially ended the Half. The ball was tipped so it wasn't a penalty. They hit a 45-yard field goal. There were some shenanigans, but Pitt really wasn't close to scoring after a stupid turnover by KC. Pitt-12. KC-7.
